The CTA launched its new 5000 Series rail cars with aisle-facing bucket-style seats on the red line replacing cars that are about 35 years old. The new cars have already been in service on the Green and Pink lines, 122 are in service — 64 on the Green, 42 on the Pink and 16 will be moved to the Red. A total of 706 new 5000 Series cars will be delivered by late 2014 or early 2015 as part of the CTA's $1.14 billion contract with Bombardier.
