How would you feel about getting money back from vending machines instead of giving your money? Well Mayor Rahm Emanuel has come up with a competition amongst city workers that will pay them for NOT USING vending machines.

Monday at City Hall, Emanuel showed up with representative of the Coke, Pepsi and Dr. Pepper companies with a proposal of creating a competition against city workers from San Antonio for a $5 million grant from the American Beverage Association to see which workforce is healthier. The Association will also pay $1,000 to individual workers who meet as-yet unspecified health care goals. The city will also be labeling calorie intakes in vending machines in government buildings. Rahm Emanuel said he doesn’t want to pursue cola serving size limits like those recently adopted in New York or to approve a proposed tax on sugary drinks that has popped up at City Hall, he thinks his plan will work better because it ensures personal responsibility.

Do you guys think this is an efficient way for people to become healthier?
