Black history is off to a good start in 2013 (see: Obama’s second inauguration on MLK Day). Not to be outdone by the boys, Rosa Parks will be honored with a statue of her likeness on D.C’s Capitol Hill later this year. As “mother of the civil rights movement,” Parks will be memorialized for her contribution to the fight for equal rights, including her refusal to give up her seat on a bus 58 years ago.
As part of an annual tradition, each state donates two statues of their most honorable citizens to Capitol Hill. Rosa Parks is one of those representing Alabama this year.
