*There will be less “Scandal” on ABC‘s schedule this season than originally planned.
According to Deadline.com, the network has cut down the order for the sizzling Shonda Rhimes drama from 22 to 18 episodes. The network wouldn’t give a reason for the reduction but, it would appear to be because of Kerry Washington’s pregnancy.
Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva writes:
It is not because ABC doesn’t want a full season of Scandal — it would gladly take 40 episodes a season from its new flagship drama series if it could. But Scandal star Kerry Washington is pregnant, and it’s getting hard to hide the pregnancy in loose-fitting clothes for the normally super stylish and elegant Olivia Pope — and it’s hard to reduce Washington’s workload as Pope is the show and in most scenes.
The episode reduction would probably be an unexpected but welcome relief for Scandal‘s writers as it is extremely hard to sustain a dense serialized drama like Scandal for a 22-episode season. (The show did seven episodes in Season 1 and 22 in Season 2.)
Scandal cannot be hotter — season-to-date, the series is up 57% in adults 18-49 (4.4) and 50% in total viewers (12.6 million) vs. last year. It is the fastest-growing returning series this season and in the so-important C3 ratings that determine ad revenues, Scandal just moved ahead of NBC’s breakout The Blacklist (3.58 rating vs. 3.55).
Scandal also has been regularly building on its Grey’s Anatomy lead-in, by a best-ever 29% last night. A pregnancy of a series’ leading lady has led to shortening a season before, most recently with HBO’s True Blood and Anna Paquin.

Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West may have had the last laugh after parting ways with mega retailer Nike as reports claim his new Adidas partnership is valued at millions.
While details are scarce, reports claim Mr. West landed a $10 million deal with the renowned company.
Kanye West had a monumental falling-out with Nike over their marketing of his sneakers, and is about to get his revenge by signing a $10 million deal with rival Adidas. Kanye designed a range of sneakers for Nike, but sources tell us relations soured because he "only got 10 to 20 cents on the dollar for sales of his sneakers from Nike, and he only had a small personal stash to give out to his friends." (Page Six)
Despite trying to stay with Nike, Mr. West recently credited Adidas for winning him over with royalties.
"I gotta get my money up to another level because it ain't on Jay Z level," Kanye said in an interview. "It ain't on Diddy level yet. ... The old me, without a daughter, might have taken the Nike deal because I just love Nike so much, blah blah blah. But the new me, with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family. Whatever's official, non-official, what y'all are gonna see is I am going to be the Tupac of product. It ain't no Tupac of rap except for Tupac. ... My designs are based on what I grew up on in hip-hop. My references be like, 'Girl shaped like Kim.' Not these skinny, trying to look like a boy-type models that they try to put on the runway in fashion. My reference is Nas and Mobb Deep. ... I'm gonna be the first hip-hop designer and because of that, I'm going to be bigger than Wal-Mart." ("The Angie Martinez Show")
Last weekend, Ye dug into Nike's politics and admitted being looked down upon by its executives.
Just a few days removed from calling out Nike CEO Mark Parker, Kanye West is back it again. This time, during an open dialogue at the Madison Square Garden stop of the Yeezus tour this weekend, Kanye showed signs of a deeper rift between him and the Swoosh, as well as hinted at a new deal to be announced as early as Monday. "They try to act like people ain't line up for the Yeezys," he said, going on to drop names like designer Hedi Slimane, LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, and Kering Corporation head Francois Pinault. "Mark Parker tried to son me. Yes. Son me because I am the sun and I will shine bright. And when I don't have as much money as a billionaire and when I don't have the factories that, that dude has over there, what I do have is my voice. Ain't no corporation that can take me away from my voice and I'm going to scream at the top of my motherfucking mountain as loud as I want. Anything I want. Whenever I want. Is that crazy? So I'm going to make the announcement on Monday with the corporation that finally let me get an opportunity to create." (Complex)
To make matters worse, Mr. West even admitted he had no idea when his Red October Air Yeezy II's would finally land in store shelves.
Kanye even admitted that he, the designer of the hyped "Red October" Air Yeezy II's, might not even know when, or if, the kicks would drop. "I asked Nike when the Red Octobers supposed to drop, and they said, 'We don't know.'," he said. With the recent rants, or what Kanye likes to call, "visual streams of consciousness", a permanent departure from the brand seems to already be in the books. When's the last time Ye was actually spotted rocking Red Octobers? (Complex)
Recently, Kanye suggested he did not receive fair treatment from releasing his limited edition Air Yeezy sneakers through Nike.
"Man, just not making decisions for myself and making sure I made decisions for my family," said Kanye. "Like if it's for myself, I would have been cool just sitting in Nike not getting no royalties. Letting people line up for the Yeezys and not--you know. When I'm having negotiations and then I go and look in my daughter's eyes and when I go and negotiate after that I'm like 'Oh y'all ain't finna talk to me like that. We finna get this money right.'" After making sure to spend her Turkey Day with her boyfriend Chris Brown in rehab this week, she apparently broke down when he revealed his true feelings for her.
According to Hollywoodlife.com, sources say she pulled out all the stops to make sure Chris had a full Thanksgiving meal while he spent time getting better.
Sources say it was his words of thanks, however, that really touched Kae.
They told the site:
’She made him everything.’
‘She brought the boy a home-cooked turkey, yams, cranberry stuffing, black-eyed peas – the works.’
The source added: ‘He was thankful and real receptive to her. He told her, “Babe, I’m thankful for everything that is you. Thanks for looking after me and I love you.”
‘She was completely moved by what he said. She said she couldn’t stop crying and that her hands were shaking.’
Aww! For all she’s been through with Chris, she definitely deserves the best from him!
Do you guys think these two will settle down for good in the future?
Crazy photo of Suge Knight assuming the position -- LAPD officers pulled him over Friday afternoon ... with guns out, but we're told it was all a case of mistaken identity.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, police had received a report of an assault, and the suspect matched Suge's description -- so when officers spotted Suge in his vehicle ... they pulled him over, and jumped out of their patrol car with their guns drawn.
We're told Suge agreed to go to the police station, where he explained he wasn't the man they were looking for ... in fact, police now believe the initial report of an assault was bogus.
Suge was eventually released ... but sources close to the hip hop mogul tell TMZ, he is extremely pissed about the misunderstanding -- and is considering filing a lawsuit.
Gucci Mane's got a problem with the United States government that goes beyond taxes -- it's like a bullet to the heart ... because Uncle Sam wants to take his Glock.
According to a federal indictment, the government wants Mane to surrender his 2 guns -- a 40 caliber Glock and a 45 caliber Taurus. They also want the ammo that goes with it.
As for why the government has a hard-on for Mane ... the rapper has 2 priors -- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of more than 20 grams of pot.
Shonda Rhimes creator of "Grey's Anatomy" hit show "Scandal" is bringing her genius to paperback! She has just locked in a deal with Simon and Shuster to write her memoir; where she will talk about her pre Hollywood days, and the struggles she had add on her path of success while being a single mother. Hope we didn't let you down if you thought you'd be feverishly reading about Olive Pope, the book is scheduled for a 2015 release. S&S describes the book as “part memoir, part inspiration, part prescription.” In a statement announcing the deal, Rhimes says,
“Simon and Schuster is crazy for giving me a book deal, as I am clearly in no position to be handing out wisdom.”
“I have made a lot of mistakes as a single mother, and as a working mother, and as a sleepless mother, and as a dating mother. And I did all of it while running a bunch of TV shows. So I’m going to write about that and hope my kids don’t use it against me in therapy later.”
S&S VP and Editor-in-chief Marysue Rucci also commented on the deal.
“Shonda Rhimes is bar none in the storytelling realm. Now fans of her phenomenal shows can read Shonda’s story in her own words – and marvel at how Shonda built a phenomenal career. Readers everywhere will cheer the fearless decisions Shonda has made to achieve happiness.”
