Breast Cancer Task Force Free Mammograms
The Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force has made over 1000 free mammograms available to uninsured women in the Chicagoland area. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and mammograms are available now. Annual mammograms are critical for early breast cancer detection. If you are an uninsured woman living in the Chicagoland area, call 312-942-1899 to sign up for your free mammogram.

The Mitten Tree Project
The City of Des Plaines Health and Human Services Division and the Special Events Commission will host the Mitten Tree Project now through December 13, 2013. The purpose of the project is to collect new hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for those in need. Items will be collected at the following locations: Des Plaines City Hall (1420 Miner Street -1st floor lobby), Frisbie Senior Center (52 E. Northwest Highway), Prairie Lakes Park District (515 E. Thacker Street), Des Plaines Public Library (1501 Ellinwood - Children’s Department), St. Zachary Church (567 W. Algonquin Road), First Midwest Bank (749 Lee Street), K-Mart (1155 Oakton Street), and Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (310 N. River Road). Step Back into a 1950s Christmas
The Park Forest House Museum is hosting a nostalgic Christmas display now through January 2nd. The museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and by appointment. “Tidings of Great Joy” Concert

Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood (ICRF) Annual Symposium
The ICRF will host its annual symposium on December 7th at the Oak Park Library from 12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This free symposium will focus on critical issues facing single and divorced fathers today. The symposium is comprised of a series of presentations by professionals who will speak on a wide range of fatherhood-related topics including the alleged failure of the Illinois Child Welfare System, the effect of parental substance abuse and parental alienation with support and advice on how to break the dangerous cycle of father absence.
